Localising the Climate Conversation

Global climate metrics often feel detached from daily life. My Climate Diary grounds climate reality in the streets, rooftops, and shared public spaces of your immediate neighbourhood—combining lived experience with civic environmental data and actionable community solutions.

The Neighbourhood as a Climate Microcosm

Climate impacts vary drastically from one city block to another based on architecture, tree cover, and asphalt density. My Climate Diary equips residents to understand and document the micro-environmental factors shaping their everyday living conditions:

  • Urban Heat Islands & Building Materials: Tracking how concrete, dense tarmac, and unshaded street canyons trap heat during the day and sustain elevated nighttime temperatures compared to neighbouring green zones.
  • Civic Climate Amenities & Refuges: Mapping local resources that alleviate heat and weather stress—such as public climate shelters, shaded parks, community cooling centres, water refill fountains, and municipal swimming facilities.
  • Community Solar & Energy Insights: Providing real-time solar irradiance potential by district, updates on rooftop solar cooperatives, and guidance on local grid-sharing initiatives.
  • Incentives & Grant Tracking: Aggregating town, municipal, and regional subsidies for green roofs, solar installations, home insulation retrofits, rainwater harvesting, and window shading.

Community-Led Action & Citizen Science

My Climate Diary turns passive observation into collective resilience through grassroots participation:

1. Backyard & Balcony Sensor Mesh

Residents, schools, and neighbourhood associations connect low-cost open-hardware weather stations and air-quality monitors to create a dense, real-time civic data mesh that fills the gaps left by official regional meteorological towers.

2. Participatory Microclimate Logging

Residents document street-level observations alongside empirical sensor metrics—such as hot spots in public transit hubs, unshaded schoolyards, wind-tunnel corridors, or the seasonal health of neighbourhood tree canopies.

3. Neighbourhood Action Hubs

Connect directly with local environmental action groups, tree-planting drives, municipal planning consultations, and clean energy co-ops operating right in your postal code.

Platform Modules
