The strain of thought

Every language has disruptors that make you think.

#Language#Grammar

The thing that breaks components in language has the same effect on my brain.

  • ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท FR: ne... pas
  • ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช DE: 'verb' + an
  • ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ ES: pronominals (verb + se)
  • ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง EN: phrasal verbs

They disrupt train of thought because you have to do some mentalese to make them work, unless they've been hardwired.

Program languages and maths also have these outside in or inside out constructs that can be difficult to juggle in working memory.

It surprises me that such concepts haven't been simplified over usage time, because more often than not, they are a hindrance to linear thought processes and languages continually evolve.

Each would require a different fix.

German is particularly contentious about the norms of use.

There is however open rebellion over certain antiquated uses of German that many natives feel impede conversation in the modern society and is openly discussed on language platforms such as DuoLingo.

In the meantime, we have to press on,. learn the rules, memorise the exceptions, and just hope we are understood.
